Action For Change - Employability

Employability is one of the top priorities for young people in Harrow, and something they tell us they need more support in (This Is Harrow). These workshops aim to bring together practitioners, key workers, project and services managers and decision makers from across the public and VCSE sectors to discuss what is and is not working in local provision. We focused on showing the ‘big picture’ issues and what is and isn’t working well in the borough in the way we work together.

It was important to have voices from all parts of children and young people’s services involved so that we can understand a complete picture. It is a chance to put the big strategic issues that affect us across all sectors and organisations on the table – and key area's like these where discussed and deliberated on:

Job creation and retention

Local procurement of services and keeping jobs local

Employability coaching services

Developing soft skills needed in the workplace

Public / private / VCSE collaboration and skills sharing

This first workshop focused on identifying gaps and selecting the priority issue areas where better cross sector collaboration can make a meaningful impact on outcomes for young people.

Employability Timeline

All participants where asked to develop a time line from 0-25 where challenges to achieve in this area occur.
