Thousands of children across Harrow are set for a summer to remember as the HAF Programme returns.

Funded by the Department for Education and delivered locally by Harrow Council in partnership with Young Harrow Foundation, the programme offers free places at participating clubs and organisations across the borough, providing activities and healthy meals for children and young people in Reception to Year 11 who receive means-tested Free School Meals. Activities run throughout the summer holidays, 20 July to 28 August, delivered through trusted local organisations and community providers.

This year's programme is one of the most diverse yet, with activities ranging from football, dance and boxing to creative arts, drama, music, cooking and outdoor adventures. For children who need specialist support, dedicated SEND specialist holiday clubs are also available.

For some children, that could mean a week exploring nature, building dens and growing in confidence through outdoor play with Woodland Adventure Forest School or building robots at Blue Magpie Sports and STEM Summer Club. For others, it might be sharpening their football skills and dreaming of following in the footsteps of their favourite players with Watford FC CSE Trust or step into the ring with Sweet Science Foundation and discover the art of non-contact boxing. Others still might discover a passion for performing arts with Flash Musicals, music, cooking with Home Group, or find their place at one of the many multi-activity camps running across the borough.

While summer is a time many children look forward to, the school holidays can be challenging for families. The HAF programme provides practical support through free activities and healthy meals, while helping children stay active, develop new skills and spend time with friends throughout the break. Alongside the core programme, additional places are available through the generous support of the DVS Foundation. Each year, DVS Foundation provides funding that extends free places to referred children across the borough who may not meet the government eligibility criteria but who would genuinely benefit from the programme during the school holidays, ensuring the support reaches families who need it most.

Much of the programme is delivered by trusted local organisations that understand the needs of their communities, creating welcoming spaces where children can learn, play and thrive.

One parent whose child attended last year said:

"As a parent of a child with ADHD, finding the right environment isn't always easy. The camp provided a safe, supportive space during the holidays. Oliver came home happier and more relaxed, and it eased so much pressure on us as a family at a really busy time of year."
