Bringing Harrow School Farm Back to Life
Bringing Harrow School Farm Back to Life
Once a working dairy farm, the site has been chiefly unused for decades. Now, thanks to a partnership between Harrow School’s Shaftesbury Enterprise and Young Harrow Foundation, along with the help of local charities, schools, and brilliant volunteers, this hidden gem is finding new purpose as a place for nature-based learning and community connection.
Over two days, children from our Children’s University partner schools got hands-on with all kinds of outdoor activities: whittling and crafting in forest school sessions, bug hunts with Harrow Nature Conservation Forum, getting up close with animals from Ark Farm, planting seeds with My Yard, and capturing it all through nature photography.
“It’s great to see local charities and schools working together to enrich and diversify how local children learn, right here on their doorstep. We’re always trying to bridge this gap through our work and partnerships.” — Dan Burke, CEO, Young Harrow Foundation
Tim Dalton, Director of Shaftesbury Enterprise, Harrow School, added:
“This marks a significant and exciting opportunity for Harrow School to deepen our commitment to partnership across the borough. We are proud to collaborate with local organisations to create a vibrant, high-quality space that will serve and inspire many throughout the Harrow community.”
A huge shout out goes to Woodland Adventure Forest School, Harrow Nature Conservation Forum, Ark Farm, My Yard and the brilliant volunteers from Harrow School, West Lodge and John Lyon School who made these days so special.
This pilot is just the start. Together, we hope to turn Harrow School Farm into a long-term hub for outdoor education and community activity, giving more schools, local charities and families a chance to connect with nature and each other.
