Cases of covid continue to rise rapidly across London, as well as in Harrow where they have nearly doubled in the past couple of weeks. Because of this London will move to tier 2 lockdown tomorrow.

'They say a picture speaks a thousand words. It’s not always easy to find the words to talk about mental health, so why not start with a picture?' To celebrate World Mental Health Day, we are working with Mind in Harrow and the Heads Up partners, encouraging you and the young people you work with to share a meme or a favourite image that best reflects how they are feeling at the moment.

Covid-19 has hit our communities hard and it is by us all following the Public Health England (PHE) advice, and taking the proper precautions, we have managed to keep people safe.

Coronavirus is spreading across Harrow and throughout the country.

Young Harrow Foundation, Mind in Harrow presenting on behalf of the Heads Up mental health partnership, My Yard and Harrow Carers delivered a session for Harrow School on Saturday 26th September to understand the Charity Sector and prepare students for their chosen activity on Community service.

Veronica Mason (BSc, MA, PGCHE) is a Professional Youth and Community Worker (JNC Qualified) and university lecturer. She is very passionate about creating programmes of change which encourages the formation of positive self-identity and racial identity awareness. Veronica currently works for London Metropolitan University and holds a master’s degree in Applied Anthropology, Community and Youth Work, a BSc Degree in Sociology and Psychology as well as a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching in Higher Education.

He has over twenty years’ senior leadership experience working across mental health, public health, heritage and ethnic equality and is well known in health, local government and the voluntary sector. In 2018 he kick started the campaign for an amnesty for the Windrush Generation. Patrick is currently Associate Director for Connected Communities at the Centre for Ageing Better, Equality and Diversity Adviser to Lambeth Council, Chair of Citizens Partnership for Healthcare Investigation Branch (HSIB) and Senior Associate at OLMEC.

As a qualified child therapeutic wellbeing practitioner, Errol has worked extensively in community settings where he observes creative, intercultural practice with an awareness of the cognitive, emotional, and educational needs of young people. Errol is the founder and director of Mindspray, a creative practice delivering projects that meet at the intersections of art, culture, and wellbeing. Acknowledged as a leading figure within the development of British graffiti art, Errol has since established a track record for creative leadership within education, corporate law, youth leadership, cultural heritage, and therapeutic wellbeing.

Kooth commissioned services offering online and text mental health support will provide insights from their work with children and families during recent weeks, and what this might mean for some children and young people returning to schools.

As part of Mental Health Week we will be looking at trends in what we are seeing around the mental health needs of young people during the Covid 19 lockdown. Professionals will share examples of what’s working well, how they are engaging with young people in need of support and sharing practical ideas and coping mechanisms which can be used by anyone working with young people.
