Afghan Association of London (Harrow)
About Organisation
The Afghan Association of London has been supporting the Afghan community in Harrow for over 30 years. In response to emerging needs, we have delivered a wide range of successful projects that promote inclusion, resilience, and community development. We have assisted thousands of Afghan refugees in their integration into UK society by providing practical support, youth and sports activities, advice, and advocacy. Our work empowers individuals and strengthens community ties across generations.
With our deep understanding of Afghan culture, language, history, and socio-economic context, we work closely with external agencies—including youth and sports organisations, Local Authorities, the NHS, the Metropolitan Police, and others—to provide guidance on cultural sensitivities when designing services for the community.
We offer a wide range of thriving services and community groups, led by a dedicated team of qualified staff and passionate volunteers. Our core services include:
-
Youth and Sports Activities: We run a football club and volleyball team that compete in local leagues, a British Taekwondo-affiliated club, and a chess club—supported by fully UK-qualified coaches.
Educational Projects: The Ariana Supplementary School offers Maths, English, and Mother Tongue classes for young people, all taught by UK-qualified teachers. - Safeguarding: We deliver Level 3 safeguarding training and have a designated Safeguarding Lead to ensure the safety and wellbeing of children and young people.
- Welfare Rights Advice: We assist individuals and families in navigating welfare and benefit systems.
- Access to Housing and Health Services: Through seminars and workshops, we support our community in understanding and accessing essential services.
- Women’s Services and Group Activities: Empowering women through targeted programs, group sessions, and community involvement.
