Afghan Association of London (Harrow)
About Organisation
Afghan Association of London has been supporting the Afghan community in Harrow for 23 years. We have initiated numerous successful projects in response to emerging needs of the community.
We have assisted thousands of Afghan refugees in the process of their integration into the UK society through provision of practical help and support, advice and advocacy.
Due to our knowledge and understanding of the Afghan culture, languages, history and socio-economic context, we work closely with external agencies, including Local Authorities, NHS, Metropolitan Police, and other organisations to advise on cultural sensitivities when designing services to the community.
We have a number of thriving services and groups, run by a brilliant team of volunteers and staff. Our services include:
- Youth and Sport Activities (Football, Taekwondo, Volleyball and Chess)
- Educational Projects (After School Mother Tongue Classes, Maths and English classes)
- Safeguarding training Level 2 session to keep Children and Young people safe
- Welfare Rights Advice
- Access to Housing and Health Services (Seminars and Workshops)
- Women Services and Group Activities
- Elderly Group Activities
- Volunteering Activities and Work Placements
- Immigration Advice (Referral to Solicitors and Specialist Services)
- Interpreting and Translation Services
- Cultural Events
- Annual Youth and Sport events
