About Organisation

The Breathe Support Group has been running monthly peer support sessions since 2017. We know from listening to parents that supporting a young person struggling with a mental health issue can be incredibly worrying and exhausting – and it’s entirely understandable that many parents and carers find parenting extremely challenging at this time. Parents may feel helpless and be concerned that they and their child or young person may reach a crisis point without additional help and support.

The Breath project aims to support the parents and carers to ensure they can help their child/young person during this anxious time and can build their resilience and that of their children and parent effectively.

This project will provide parents with practical tips and advice to navigate these difficult times and help promote positive and cooperative behaviour within their families. It will provide a pathway to confident and effective parenting that will help to reduce conflict, encourage good behaviour and reduce the worsening of existing mental health issues. This intervention is valuable for all parents dealing with the pressures of raising a child with mental health difficulties but is particularly relevant as we begin to see more complex mental health needs as an adverse effect of the Covid-19 crisis..
