About Organisation

The Brent Centre for Young People (BCYP) is a leading and internationally recognised adolescent mental health charity dedicated to supporting the emotional and psychological well-being of young people aged 11-24. With over 55 years of experience, we provide specialised, evidence-based therapeutic support to the most vulnerable young individuals across Brent and surrounding areas. Our work is vital in addressing the growing mental health crisis, offering early intervention, long-term psychotherapy, and tailored outreach programmes for children and young people (CYP) during their transition into adulthood, particularly those experiencing severe mental health challenges such as depression, self-harm, suicidal thoughts, and eating disorders.

Each year, we support over 700 vulnerable CYP in Northwest London through a range of interventions, including one-to-one psychoanalytically informed therapy, group therapy, and football-based therapy. Additionally, we extend our outreach services to schools, the Brent Youth Offending Service, and local youth clubs, engaging not only adolescents but also parents, carers, school staff, and other professionals in the process of recovery. Notably, 70% of the young people we support come from black and minority ethnic backgrounds and socio-economically deprived communities, highlighting the urgent need for accessible and culturally sensitive mental health service.

Our Services:

  • Laufer House Clinic (Brent). Brent’s only community-based psychotherapy clinic for adolescents with complex mental health and neurodevelopmental needs.
  • Westminster Centre. Provides expert in-house psychotherapy for vulnerable young people in Westminster and nearby boroughs.
  • Sport & Thought. Blends football with group therapy to engage young people facing trauma, school exclusion, or community marginalisation. Creates a safe space for emotional expression and trust-building.
  • Schools Service – Brent, Harrow and Westminster. Delivers therapy in 8 schools, supporting students through trauma, anxiety, and low self-esteem. Also provides parental support, staff consultation, and practical referrals.
  • Youth Offending Service – Brent and Harrow. Therapy and advocacy for 11–24-year-olds involved with youth justice or at risk of care. Includes family support, rapid assessments, and weekly outreach sessions.
  • Practical Support – All Projects. Wraparound help with housing, education, CVs, and benefits to support therapeutic progress. One-to-one guidance ensures young people stay engaged and stable.
  • The Irish Project. Culturally sensitive therapy for Irish youth, including Travellers and Irish people of colour. Supports transgenerational trauma and trains professionals in cultural awareness.
