Unique Community Charity
About Organisation
Unique Community is a performing arts organisation that uses theatre to connect with individuals often overlooked by society. By working collaboratively with the local community, we create powerful, new theatre that tackles real-world issues. Through performances and workshops, Unique Community engages diverse audiences, aiming to spark a ripple of positive change in society.
VISION // Everyone deserves a safe space in which they can explore, create and thrive.
MISSION //
- INSPIRE - We inspire positive change in our community’s mental health and wellbeing. We turn their struggles into confidence through the arts. Our community is built on sharing, learning and growing from each other's lived experience.
- CONNECT - We tackle isolation amongst marginalised groups by developing peer-to-peer connection. We invite them to grow our community and create lifelong friendships.
- EXPLORE - We explore emotive and challenging subject matter through the arts. We maintain a safe space for our community to be bold; finding their voice, building resilience and developing daring new art.
- EMPOWER - We empower our community to co-design all of our projects. This develops tangible skills, to support them in navigating personal and global challenges.
APPROACH //
Most people who find their way to Unique Community come from marginalised backgrounds, often having experienced significant trauma or social isolation.
We shape our welcoming community around their unique needs.
The personal stories and experiences of each person are entwined within every aspect of our programs, inspiring creative sessions that centre their perspectives. We invest in this approach through creating a safe, calm and prepared environment. An Arts Therapist/Wellbeing Officer supports every single one of our sessions.
We celebrate each individual as they are and encourage our community to celebrate each other. No one is left behind.
Our inclusive culture fosters creative exploration. In our small space, our community are empowered to tackle big things and better face the world beyond our walls. Our staff and members hold themselves and each other accountable. Our Ask and Our Conditions (detailed below) give them the vocabulary to do this.

DYCE
DYCE provides children and young people with a safe space to engage in empathy-driven dialogue and critical thinking through engaging, interactive process drama workshops. Led by highly skilled facilitators, these workshops build on impactful performances by Unique Youth Theatre & The Stork Project, addressing some of today’s most urgent issues through the lens of the community.
Each DYCE workshop is rooted in original performances written by young people and members of the wider community, ensuring the stories resonate deeply with participants. For instance, The Supermarket workshop tackles the cost-of-living crisis with a fictional scenario involving a toilet paper shortage and sales bonuses, mirroring the pressures many people face today. Hope Road delves into themes of political instability, migration, and the dangerous impact of propaganda on society.
What makes these workshops unique is their origin—scripts crafted by young people, creating an authentic connection with students in schools. Through these workshops, young creators’ voices reach hundreds of children and young people across North West London, ensuring that their powerful stories continue to inspire and resonate.
THS STORK PROJECT
The Stork Project harnesses the power of performing arts to help migrants navigate the challenges of adjusting to life in a new country. By bringing people together to work towards a shared goal, the project fosters a sense of belonging, connection, and hope within the community.
The project is divided into three key areas:
Theatre Company - A Ukrainian performance group that creates an original musical, culminating in a professional stage production. This group, formed through word-of-mouth, referrals, and specific show needs, is open to everyone who wants to participate.
Children & Young People - Workshops and trips designed to connect children and young people from Ukraine. Currently, this initiative is funded to specifically support Ukrainian children and young people living in Harrow, London.
Community Workshops - Delivered through outreach, these sessions are open to anyone and are run in collaboration with partner organisations, bringing the performing arts to diverse community groups.
