What

Be the Band offers exhilarating rock band workshops, catering to small groups of 5-6 pupils per hour and supporting approximately 30 students throughout the day. Our innovative approach to music performance provides a welcoming space for young people who may not feel comfortable engaging with traditional music curriculums. With no prior musical experience required, participants have the freedom to choose their role in the band, whether it be singer, guitarist, drummer, bassist, or keyboardist.

In the Be the Band workshops, participants benefit from a multifaceted learning experience that spans social, educational, and creative domains.

  • Socially, the workshops foster the development of confidence and self-esteem as participants engage in the collaborative process of creating music together. Through teamwork, students learn the importance of cooperation and communication, laying the foundation for successful group dynamics. Public performances provide an opportunity for participants to showcase their talents, further boosting their confidence and providing a sense of achievement.
  • Educationally, participants gain valuable musical knowledge and skills. They learn about rhythm through exploring different note durations and tempos, while also delving into pitch, including an introduction to sharps and flats. Notation becomes accessible as participants make connections between the colour-coded system and traditional musical notation. Fine motor skills are honed through the smooth transitioning between notes at increasing speeds, enhancing dexterity and control.
  • Creatively, participants have the chance to explore their artistic identity as a band. They collaborate to develop their own unique band name, costumes, and logo, fostering a sense of ownership and creativity. Performance skills are cultivated as participants learn how to make a memorable stage entrance and engage with an audience, fostering self-expression and artistic confidence.

Overall, Be the Band workshops provide a rich and immersive learning experience that empowers participants socially, educationally, and creatively while igniting a passion for music and performance.

At Be the Band, we utilize specially adapted instruments equipped with colour-coded labels and note names, along with tablets displaying corresponding colours and symbols on the screen. This intuitive technology enables participants to play music together seamlessly, right from the moment they sit down at the instrument. Whether beginners, individuals with physical accessibility needs, or learners with special educational needs, everyone can actively participate in creating music.
