What

Bloom is the largest UK-wide programme for 14–18-year-olds which focuses on supporting young people’s mental health resilience. Delivered in schools and colleges, Bloom equips young people with the tools and knowledge to maintain their mental health through life’s transitions, both now and in the future.

At Mental Health UK, we know there is a growing need for support for young people. Rates of mental ill health in young people have continued to rise, with complex societal challenges affecting young people across the UK. The number of children referred to emergency mental healthcare in England has soared by more than 50% in three years, and 1 in 4 young people suffer from probable mental ill health (2022).

Evidence shows that providing good, early preventative support in the right place at the right time can help to avoid deterioration in young people’s mental health and equip them for the challenges of everyday life. By providing training for school and college staff, we also aim to achieve a long-term impact in every setting we work in. During our developmental phase, we gathered insight from young people and teachers across the UK to build a programme which young people have told us they want and need.
