What

intriguing and democratic” – Fest Magazine

Kidocracy began as an interactive children's theatre show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, introducing children from the ages of 6-10 to various concepts surrounding governing and democracy in a fun and interactive way. With funding from Arts Council England, it has evolved into a Democracy workshop for children in Primary Schools across the country.

Kidocracy: Empowering Young Voices Through Interactive Theatre

Kidocracy is a high-energy, 40–60 minute interactive theatre experience designed especially for KS2 pupils. Originally born at the Edinburgh Fringe, it invites children to step into the shoes of world leaders — debating, deciding, and even overthrowing a comically evil tyrant to create their own better society.

Blending laughter with learning, Kidocracy brings the principles of democracy, leadership, and global citizenship to life in a way that’s fun, memorable, and deeply engaging. Pupils are split into groups and take an active role in shaping the story — building teamwork, critical thinking, and confidence along the way.

Many schools say it’s especially powerful for children who are quiet, shy, or lack self-belief, helping them find their voice and take pride in their ideas.

Perfect for assemblies, PSHE, or citizenship enrichment, Kidocracy leaves pupils buzzing with energy — and a new understanding that their voice matters, and a new understanding that leadership isn’t always about having the “right” answer, but about listening, making choices, and learning from the consequences together.

“It was a brilliant workshop that cleverly blended very important political themes with great fun. The children were engaged the entire time and learnt so much along the way. What a brilliant initiative!”

St. Mary Magdalena Academy, Islington, London

“The children were mesmorized by the Kidocracy show! It was an amazing inclusive show for primary aged children. We learnt all about democracy, voting leadership and inclusivity in an action packed hour full of fun and laughter.”

Ladybankes Primary School, Ruislip

"It was lovely to see children from different year groups/social groups working together when they normally would not have a chance. The voting section was a great activity and really showed the children how voting worked based on their opinion and the process,. Also, going over the qualities of a good leader was a great start for this too!"
