DNA-V
About Project
Many young carers stuggle to balance their caring role, education and mental wellbeing. Caring for a loved one could also mean that schoolwork can suffer. 27% of young carers between 11-15 years miss school and, when they do go to school, their lack of concentration due to tiredness or worry will in turn affect their enthusiasm to learn and finally impact their grades. Future aspirations can also be affected.
DNA-V is a cognitive behaviour program with the key objective being to successfully engage young clients, harness their strengths, and help them build lifelong skills using DNA-V for Young People.
Using 7 modules, young people learn practical theory and tools based on acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), using positive psychology principles that speak directly to the needs of adolescents and young adults. Tghe program lasts for 8 weeks with a one hour session each week.
We offer two ways of accessing the DNA-V program to ensure students in Harrow are supported with the sills to thirve.
In school provision: The young carers team can be contact to come into your school and run the program directly to your students.
Out of School Provison: For students who are currently either not comming into school or struggling to be in school full time we offer a weekly program at our Youth dn comunity center in Pinner View. We accept referals from schools and other professionals for this and will work directly with the score as part of this with the gaol to see the student increase their attendance and identify the key barriers that are resulting in non attendance.
to either book yuor school in or to talk to us about a specifi student accessing our out of school provision please contact our team, youngcarers@harrowcarers.org.
