About Project

Currently over 0.5% of our population are considered problem gamblers and 7% of the population of the UK are negatively affected by gambling, which is one in 12 people either directly or indirectly affected by gambling-related harms. For those from an Asian/Asian British Ethnic Group the odds of being a problem gambler are 5 times higher.
This is despite the fact that participant in gambling is higher among White ethnic groups and lower among those from Asian ethnic groups. The impact is greater for those from ethnic groups even though the gambling activities is less. Religion and culture also have an impact on how individuals view gambling. We also know it is often the shame, guilt, cultural and family background that often stops individuals from seeking help.
