What
Lifetime Stories is an intergenerational storytelling programme designed to connect younger people with the older generation. Through workshops on storytelling, active listening, and interview techniques, the program aims to develop the employability and life skills of young people by deepening their connection to family history.
Programme Overview
- Storytelling Workshops: Students learn about storytelling, active listening, and story-mapping, and are guided to focus on a specific area of their chosen person’s life, such as childhood memories, life lessons, cultural traditions, or favorite stories.
- Story Explorer Role: Students become “story explorers” by collecting stories through interviews and sharing meaningful objects, photos, and songs with their chosen person (often a family member).
- Final Intergenerational Session: Students and their chosen person collaborate to create a piece of art, based on an object that symbolizes the story they explored. The student writes the story behind the object.
- Workbooks & Resources: Each student receives a workbook with exercises, and teachers are provided with guidelines to keep students engaged. Parents are informed on how to support their children throughout the project.
Harrow Change Makers
After catching up with over 7,000 children and young people, we created a report on their thoughts and worries about growing up in Harrow. We started the Harrow Change Makers Grant Programme where amazing organisations in Harrow that support children and young people offer FREE activities tailor-made for them!
