What
The Therapeutic dance programme delivers a SEND 12-week therapeutic dance intervention during the school day, running once a week during term time. Sessions last 45–60 minutes, including transition time. Each group includes up to 8–10 young people, with up to four groups delivered per day.
Sessions are led by a qualified Dance Movement Psychotherapist (DMP) from icandance, supported by a trained disabled co-facilitator. Delivery is adapted to the needs of each group and individual child, with close collaboration between the icandance team and school staff.
Session Structure
Each session follows a clear and supportive structure:
-
Gentle warm-up and grounding activities
-
Creative movement and dance tasks to support expression and engagement
-
Opportunities for choice-making, interaction, and relationship-building
-
A calm closing activity to support regulation and transition back to class
Over the term, sessions move from playful confidence-building towards creative expression, connection with others, and development of new movement skills.
