What
Lead Right is a targeted early-intervention programme combining boxing, mentoring and youth work to support excluded and at-risk young people in schools in Harrow. Recent HAY Harrow 2025 findings show that nearly half of young people report worsening mental health, and one in three do not feel safe in their community, with those from low-income households and with SEND most affected. Lead Right directly supports this group, offering a consistent, trusted alternative to criminal exploitation, youth violence and disengagement from education.
What the Programme Includes:
- Boxing: Weekly sessions build discipline, emotional regulation, and physical well-being. Evidence (Youth Endowment Fund, 2021) shows boxing interventions reduce anti-social behaviour.
- Mentoring: One-to-one sessions with trained youth workers provide personalised guidance, helping students set goals, navigate challenges, and develop social skills.
- Group Workshops: Honest, interactive conversations on real-world risks such as knife crime, online safety, and peer pressure, facilitated by trusted youth workers with lived experience.
- Detached Youth Work: Two hours weekly in local hotspots, sustaining relationships beyond the school gates, understanding young people’s environments, and identifying emerging risks before they escalate.
The programme will take place at your school on Wednesdays from 1:50 pm to 2:50 pm.
The programme is shaped by young people’s feedback, including gender-specific sessions, and is delivered in close partnership with schools and safeguarding services to ensure joined-up support. Monitoring from the first phase shows strong outcomes, with most participants reporting improved resilience and renewed engagement with education or positive activities. By continuing Lead Right, vulnerable pupils in Harrow will benefit from sustained, meaningful support that improves wellbeing, increases safety and opens positive pathways for their future.
Harrow Change Makers
After catching up with over 7,000 children and young people, we created a report on their thoughts and worries about growing up in Harrow. We started the Harrow Change Makers Grant Programme, where amazing organisations in Harrow that support children and young people offer FREE activities tailor-made for them!
