What
MathsMakers delivers small-group, interactive maths tuition specifically designed to support young carers and students facing additional challenges. Taking place at Harrow Carers, 376–378 Pinner Road, North Harrow, the programme helps participants strengthen maths skills, tackle areas of difficulty, and build confidence in applying numeracy in real-life contexts. Beyond academic support, sessions focus on resilience, motivation, and independent learning, giving young carers a safe and structured space outside their home responsibilities.
The tuition is tailored to each student’s needs, with small groups led by qualified maths instructors who use evidence-based approaches and practical exercises to make learning engaging and accessible. Students benefit from personalised guidance, ongoing assessment, and opportunities to practise problem-solving in a supportive environment. For young carers, the programme provides consistency, understanding, and encouragement, helping them stay on track academically while managing their caring responsibilities.
MathsMakers also encourages students to shape their own learning, providing regular feedback and adapting sessions to individual needs. By combining targeted tuition, supportive guidance, and practical, real-world maths, the programme helps young carers improve attainment, build confidence, and develop skills that benefit both school and wider wellbeing.
