What
Urban Therapy is a relationship-based outreach programme that supports young people who are difficult to engage and at risk of harm or involvement in violence. Referrals will come directly from the Council’s Youth Justice Service, allowing support to begin quickly and at the point it is most needed.
Support is delivered flexibly and on the young person’s terms, meeting them where they feel most comfortable — such as cafés, cars, homes or within their community. Sessions typically last one to two hours and take place as often as needed. Engagement is entirely voluntary, with no fixed end date, giving young people control over the process and the time they need to build trust, reflect, and make progress. This approach helps reduce barriers, strengthens engagement, and empowers young people to take ownership of change.
Urban Therapy works through a structured but flexible journey, beginning with assessment and relationship-building, followed by a tailored plan that supports emotional wellbeing, family relationships, education, training and positive community connections. Skilled Therapeutic Outreach Workers deliver ongoing support in collaboration with families and professionals, adapting as needs change. Relationships sit at the heart of the programme, enabling young people to build stability, reduce harmful behaviour, and move toward safer, more positive futures.
