What
The WISH Centre supports young people aged 11–25 in Harrow who are self-harming or experiencing serious mental health challenges, including trauma, abuse, neglect and emotional distress. The service is focused on preventing youth self-harm and suicide, and helping young people rebuild hope for the future.
With over 20 years of evidence-based practice, the Centre provides specialist, community-based support. An independent evaluation by the Centre for Mental Health reported a 90% recovery rate and recommended the WISH Centre’s approach for national use.
What support is offered?
Support is tailored to each young person and may include:
- Long-term trauma-informed psychotherapy
- Peer support groups
- Art therapy
- Youth work activities
- Outreach and advocacy
Young people are offered a safe, non-judgemental space where they can be heard, understood, and supported to stop self-harming and work towards recovery. The WISH Centre recognises that self-harm and mental health difficulties are often linked to complex life experiences. Support is designed to address these wider needs, not just symptoms.
Working with families and communities
Alongside direct support for young people, the WISH Centre also supports:
- Families
- Schools
- Community organisations
This includes advice and training to help others understand self-harm and how best to support recovery.
