What

Located in a Grade II* listed mansion house, which was Headquarters Fighter Command during the Battle of Britain, Bentley Priory Museum offers a unique and inspiring learning environment for young people.

Our bespoke school sessions will enhance your students' learning about World War II and the Battle of Britain and support your students in developing important historical enquiry skills. Local history sessions are also available for Key Stage 2.

School visits start at 10 am and finish at 2 pm, with an hour’s break for lunch. The visit comprises of one workshop (lasting 75 mins) and a tour of the Museum.

Lower Key Stage 2 Workshops (Years 3 & 4)

Leadership, Bravery and Technology: Object Handling

  • Through engagement with the Museum’s handling collection, students will explore the roles of men and women during the Battle of Britain and the
    technology they utilised. SUBJECTS: History (Battle of Britain, Women at War)

Bentley Priory Local History Study

  • Through engagement with the Museum’s handling collection and working together to create a historical timeline, students will explore Bentley Priory’s rich and varied history, as a Priory, private home, hotel, girls’ school and RAF base. SUBJECTS: History (Local History Study).

Upper Key Stage 2 Workshops (Years 5 & 6)

Plot The Battle of Britain

  • Through plotting incoming enemy raids on a recreated Filter Room map, students will learn about the important work of RAF Bentley Priory during the Battle of Britain and the contribution of the WAAF (Women’s Auxiliary Air Force). SUBJECTS: History (Battle of Britain, Women at War) Geography (Maps)

Bentley Priory Local History Study

  • Through engagement with the Museum’s handling collection and working together to create a historical timeline, students will explore Bentley Priory’s rich and varied history, as a Priory, private home, hotel, girls’ school and RAF base. SUBJECTS: History (Local History Study)
