What

MathsMakers is an education charity that specialises in working with schools to deliver maths intervention programmes. We have a successful track record helping students catch up in their maths learning, thus boosting their confidence and improving their attainment.

MathsMakers works with disadvantaged students including SEND and EAL students.

In 2023/24, MathsMakers programmes helped close to 600 students develop their maths potential. 97% of our students say that the tutorials help them with their maths learning, 95% say they feel more confident about discussing their work in class, and over 90% would recommend MathsMakers to their friends. On average, students have improved their attainment in our assessments by 20 percentage points.

  • In-person maths intervention support

  • 12-week programmes for students in years 6 to year 9

  • 10 students per group - students selected by their school

  • One 60-minute session per group, per week

  • Sessions typically take place 3.30-4.30

  • Taught by highly experienced maths teachers and tutors

  • Maths mentors are recruited from the school's Year 12 students

  • Mentors provide additional 1:1 support for the younger students.

  • MathsMakers tailors programmes to meet school requirements, including focussing on topics and learning gaps identified through school assessments.

  • Students work in small groups, at a pace and level that suits their needs.

  • For Year 6 students, particular attention is given to preparation for SATs exams.

  • MathsMakers takes pride in maintaining regular contact with parents. This ensures good attendance and engagement by participating students.

  • Year 12 students who volunteer as Maths Mentors get training and weekly supervision. Their experience with MathsMakers develops their interpersonal skills and is highly valued in UCAS and job applications.

  • Schools enter into an agreement with MathsMakers.

  • Students are selected and registered by the school.

  • The school agrees to provide background information and contact details for each participating student.

  • The school provides a classroom where the sessions can take place.

  • The school helps with recruiting Year 12 students as Maths Mentors. MathsMakers provides training.
