What

MathsMakers is currently running online tutorial programmes for students at mainstream secondary schools in Harrow. The schools select students to participate in the MathsMakers programmes which take place after-school or on Saturdays.

Our Aims

Narrowing the Attainment Gap
A core objective of schools is to narrow the gap in progress and attainment among their students. The challenge is to deliver targeted support with limited resources and provide high quality, personalised help for their students.
MathsMakers is dedicated to supporting schools in the Greater London area through its quality intervention programmes which involve student mentors. We engage students who need help with their maths learning through hands-on, varied and differentiated activities to get 'unstuck' in maths.

Tailored Intervention Programmes
MathsMakers tailors its support to each school's requirements. Our content is agreed in consultation with the school. As appropriate, we follow the school's maths scheme of work and track current topics that are being covered in class.
MathsMakers uses resources that are trusted by schools, including materials from NRICH, NCETM, Kangaroo Maths and the National Strategies. Furthermore, we use concept development activities developed by Professor Malcolm Swan, and resources from the Mathematics Assessment Project, a project funded by the Shell Centre for Mathematical Education, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, for the Common Core mathematics curriculum in the US.

Providing Extra Help with Math

Schools select the students who will participate in each programme. These students are working below National Curriculum expectations, and include some who are on Free School Meals, have English as an additional language, and have mild learning difficulties.Upon completion of the programme, MathsMakers expects students to make measurable progress on agreed learning targets.
