What

Reality Check is a community-based project designed to support children, young people and their families by taking a holistic, preventative approach to wellbeing. All activities are free to attend and take place in a supportive, non-judgemental environment.

At the heart of the project are six-week community courses that provide practical self-development tools and create safe spaces for open conversations around everyday challenges. Topics include making the most of home life, managing budgets, shopping and cooking, mental health, and how families spend time together during evenings, weekends and holidays. Substance misuse is approached sensitively within these discussions, allowing it to be explored naturally rather than through direct intervention.

Alongside the courses, Reality Check offers regular activities to build trust, connection and confidence across the community:

• Monthly Sunday lunches to bring families together and strengthen relationships
• Monthly outings and team-building activities for young people, tailored by age group, with a focus on personal growth and confidence
• Weekly peer support sessions for men, particularly young men who may be using substances as a coping mechanism

By reducing isolation and strengthening connections within households and the wider community, Reality Check creates stronger foundations for young people to engage positively in activities, interventions and opportunities that support their long-term wellbeing.
