What

The Umbrella Programme enables the children to develop their social skills through a hands-on approach. This provides the children opportunities to learn how to contribute and gain a sense of belonging, creating the ability to develop a sense of purpose and realise their potential. Throughout the 10 week experiential programme all the social interactions, whether positive or negative are a learning experience. The safe and supportive environment in which the group discusses and learns from the social experiences enables them to grow and find their locus of control.

Umbrella Programme Benefits

  • This experiential programme focuses on years 5 and 6 to highlight challenges and skills in social interactions. This enables the children to modify their thoughts, feelings and behaviours, providing the development of their social skills within the parameters of the 3 concepts. (Emotional regulation, resilience and positive sense of self).
  • The programme also provides the reception children with an opportunity to receive healthy social interactions that are being modelled by the Year 5/6 children, focusing their interactions using the core concepts. This creates opportunities for the reception children to develop ways to navigate and gain access to new learnings around friendships.
  • The Umbrella Programme harnesses a psychological approach to developing a mental representation of the value of self, purpose, potential and expectations of others.

Ongoing Extended Benefits

  • Provision of outcome data per pupil over all core competencies.
  • Specific tailored feedback and recommendations per pupil to the teaching staff. This highlights the growth and development of the pupil and provides opportunities for discussion around future developmental needs to support and maintain the aims, goals and achievements of The Umbrella Programme.
