Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (TF-CBT) is recommended by NICE guidelines as the first-line intervention for Children and Young People with Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The cognitive model of PTSD in children and young people (Meiser-Stedman, 2002) will be presented and explained.

The training will cover:

  1. How children and families react to traumatic events,
  2. Risk factors for PTSD in children and young people
  3. The cognitive model of PTSD in children and young people
  4. TF-CBT for children and young people, including engagement, implementing this intervention, common barriers, and adaptations for multiple traumatic events
  5. The evidence base for TF-CBT

The workshop will use a variety of training methods including interactive presentation of theory with case illustrations (with clients’ consent), small group discussion and opportunities to practice skills.
