What

This Winter we are welcoming Ukrainian children & young people that have recently arrived as refugees in the UK to our exciting arts programme.

We will be working in partnership with Nana’s Kitchen Harrow a local Ukrainian restaurant that will provide all the nutritious meals for the children.

Young people will be involved in Drama activities exploring what Christmas is like in the UK & Ukraine, travel through London on a cultural tour learning all about the place they are living in & take part in engaging arts & crafts activities to create cards & artwork for their families back home.

  • Day 1 - Drama & Movement Day - exploring what the festive season is like in Ukraine and how it is different in the UK. Exploring & understanding the Ukrainian cuisine that will be served for lunch.
  • Day 2 - Cultural Tour of Central London with a Russian-speaking guide - with a classic English-packed lunch with a healthy Ukrainian twist!
  • Day 3 - Drama Games & Arts/Crafts - Creating artwork to send home to Ukraine for the festive season / Exploring and understanding the makeup of an English festive dinner & what the equivalent would be in Ukraine.

More about the food...

The meals will consist of all-natural produce and all meals will be explained. These explanations will include both the ingredients & where they come from as well as the method of creating the meals. On day one young people will be eating traditional homemade Ukrainian, on the second day they will get a cold packed lunch, and on the third day, they will get a traditional English Christmas dinner with a Ukrainian twist. Every meal will be intrinsic to the day's events and what the group will be exploring.

WHAT'S HAF

The Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) Programme is a Department for Education (DfE) funded programme of activities for children and young people aged 5-16 years, during the school holidays (Winter, Easter, and Summer). The programme offers a range of activities in Harrow, including some specialist SEND provisions. Places are free for children who meet the criteria, and a free nutritious meal is provided at each programme.

WHO IS THE HAF PROGRAMME FOR?

To qualify for a free place in the HAF programme, you have to meet the following criteria:

  • The child / young person must be of school age – from Reception up to Year 11
  • The child/young person must be living and/or attending school in Harrow
  • The child must be in receipt of benefits tested Free School Meals*

This programme is primarily aimed at those eligible for Free School Meals (FSM) benefits related - but not exclusively as we aim to include any child experiencing economic and social disadvantage.

SEND friendly

We have some training or experience of Special Educational Needs & Disabilities and are able to accommodate children with low-level needs, we do not offer 1:1. Contact us to discuss how we can support your child.
