Job Description

Ignite youth workers impact young people in Harrow to make positive choices.We are a passionate, Christian led charity with a proven record of working with young people, some of  whom are not living positively in their communities.  Sport is a key part of our strategy.

We need an energetic, developing or experienced sports worker who is professional and passionate about seeing change in young people.  They will be comfortable in a suburban youth culture as well as in meetings with partners and funders.

We recognise the value  in surrounding young people with positive role models and a variety of life experiences so team working is a must.

The successful candidate will possess a proven track record of sports delivery and youth work. They will  demonstrate commitment to safeguarding young people and adopting a follow-through approach, recognising and recording positive outcomes. They will be IT literate, organised, proactive, pay excellent attention to detail, have a calm approach and be able to work under pressure. They will be motivated to provide high levels of service, deliver objectives and achieve goals.

Areas of responsibility:

  • Lead on  the implementation of sports sessions creating an environment where young people have fun, find a sense of achievement and relate respectfully to all involved.
  • Utilise Ignite drop-in venues for flexible group activities and specific projects with young people.
  • Develop links with other facilities within the community that are suitable for delivery of activities.
  • Increase participation and encourage social cohesion within the project sessions and wider community.
  • Develop relationships with ‘hard-to-reach’ young people through detached work and Ignite Projects, through informal contact during the school day and in the evenings.
  • Undertake one-to-one mentoring in support of young people, providing information, advice and guidance to encourage them to make positive changes in their lives and fulfil their potential.
  • Advocacy on the behalf of young people in official circles including education, employment and possibly the criminal justice system.
  • Partnership working with other key organisations and agencies in developing effective youth work across the borough, sharing information on best practice and creating better referral pathways and opportunities for young people.
  • Networking to develop new and existing relationships with key contacts in partner organisations.
  • Administration and data collection – complete session debrief forms and other project evaluation forms as necessary, entering all data onto the Ignite management information (MI) system, to monitor the impact and effectiveness of the project and outcomes achieved.

Hours:  40 hours per week, including 3-4 evenings
