Holiday, Activities and Food (HAF) Programme 2021
Young Harrow Foundation (YHF) was commissioned by Harrow Council in March 2021 to deliver The Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) Programme in Harrow. The Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) Programme is a Department for Education (DfE) funded programme of activities for children and young people from Reception to Year 11, during the school holidays (Winter, Easter, and Summer) eligible for Free School Meals (FSM), benefits related.
The programme offers a range of physical and creative activities, including some specialist SEND provisions and daily and free nutritious meals. The primary beneficiaries of the programme are intended to be those children who are eligible for free school meals. Still, the programme can include support for children and young people facing hardship and target geographical hotspots showing high levels of economic disadvantage, obesity and deprivation.
7,170 Children and Young People were supported throughout the programme in 2021. This was achieved through 80 grants to 24 organisations across the 3 programmes (Easter, Summer and Winter).
As a result of the holiday provision, we want to see children and young people:
- Eat more healthily (Hot meals where possible)
- Be more active
- Take part in engaging and enriching activities
- Be safe and not isolated
- Have greater knowledge of health and nutrition
