Short Breaks 2024 - Pilot Programme

Over the past two years, YHF has collaborated with Harrow Council to explore new ways of providing diverse, appealing activities for children and young people in families eligible for Short Break care.

Leveraging funding from Harrow School, DVS Foundation, and a private donation totaling £40,000, YHF piloted a model delivered by Magna Group Enterprises in partnership with Shaftesbury High School (SEND). This program ran every Tuesday after school from February to July 2024, offering a variety of activities such as independence training, cookery, arts and crafts, boxing, and sports.

36 young people aged 12-18 years old have taken part.

Initial research identified five key outcomes for improvement, with the program aiming to boost confidence and independence in each area through targeted activities.

  1. Independence
  2. Inclusivity
  3. Sport, well-being and self-care
  4. Sensory Fun
  5. Training and Education
