  • Early diagnosis can change the trajectory of the disease

Our programmes

Brian the Brain is a unique multigenerational programme for schools built on the learning of years of research in change behaviour and adaptation to healthy lifestyle. Brian the Brain is a project led by Dementia Prevention UK, understanding that educating students of brain health behaviours is empowering and may lead to not only the reduction of dementia risk but increase today their cognitive ability, self esteem and general wellbeing.

Supporting teachers adopting brain health lifestyle is a perfect match to educating the students. Brain health lifestyle is a combination of: physical health, mental health, nutrition, socialisation and cognitive stimulation.

This programme does not expect children and their families to make a 180 degree change, but empowers them with knowledge to make the right choices and tools to implement brain health lifestyle. Changed behaviour comes as part of acceptance and inclusivity, this programme focuses on achievable changes. The changes we introduce are incremental, cost effective, easy and accessible and most importantly help participants feel able to control their lives.

Brian the Brain aims are:

  • Improve understanding of the importance of brain health lifestyle and ability to make small accessible lifestyle behaviour choices that can make a difference to long term mental and physical health.
  • Increase knowledge of brain health and effective ways to keep the brain stimulated
  • Cross-generational learning and impact with information shared beyond the classroom
  • Educators’ acceptance of the value of teaching brain health lifestyle to children.
