About Organisation

Who are we:

Harrow Carers is an independent voluntary organisation and the lead carers support agency in Harrow since 1996. We have developed a network of services and support for adult and young carers to reduce the burden of care and increase life chances. Our services are offered to anyone who provides support for people in the community who are ill, frail, disabled and disadvantaged in many ways.

How is a young carer defined:

A young carer is a young person aged up to 18 who is providing unpaid care for a person at home that has a physical or mental health issues including autism, dementia and learning disabilities, substance misuse, long-term or terminal illness.

We support young carers in the following way:

Secondary School outreach service offer month drop-ins to 10 secondary schools in Harrow. Young carers are invited to seasonal activities and outings. We offer extensive half term and summer activities programme. This included residential trips and expeditions as well as self-development opportunities.

We feel strongly about supporting young carers and their academic achievements. In 2019 we are hoping to provide additional education support to young carers in secondary school.

In December 2018 we launch our counselling service for young carers. Call Amanda Ashton for more information on 0208 868 5224.

View our various projects for specific information around the different services on offer for young carers.
