About Project

Sweet Science's popular boxing/wellbeing programme is proven to equip children and young people struggling with their emotional health, with a non-violent strategic outlet for their difficult feelings and tension, and support them to cultivate resilience and composure.

We've been successfully delivering this service for seventeen years, and now through the CNWL mental health partnership, we are able to offer this programme FREE to primary and secondary schools up to year 11 in Harrow who have been identified by your school as in need of support with their mental and emotional health and wellbeing. *We do offer paid packages for a range of other support needs and ages.

The offer

  • Flexible programme offering ten sessions per school with a mix of non-contact boxing training, supported by group and 1:1 mentoring time.
  • Sessions led by an experienced youth worker.
  • Group mentoring sessions are a safe and supported environment to discuss issues that are current for the children e.g. friendships and relationships, bullying, mental health, crime, gang culture, substance misuse etc. All discussions are age appropriate.
  • Within this offer we can offer 1:1 support for school refusers or children studying at home because of their mental health challenges - and can deliver sessions and mentoring in their home.

How it works

  • We don't need a sports hall - just enough space for up to 10 children (e.g. an empty classroom).
  • We can deliver this programme before, after, or during school time. The school needs to select a group of young people who are struggling emotionally, and who would benefit the most from the project.

The role of the partner school:

  • At Sweet Science we find our programmes are most impactful when they are a true partnership - with two-way communication. We'd need a nominated school lead to be able to communicate with.
  • We do not need a school staff member to be present in the sessions, but we do encourage you to come along to one or two to understand the programme. We'll happily provide you a pair of gloves if you want to have a go!
  • This service is FREE if the school can confirm that the young people taking part are struggling with their emotional wellbeing and could benefit from this type of support. If you are looking for more general support, then we would refer you to our paid service.
