What

Currently on hold for students aged under 18, due to Covid-19 restrictions. Please get in touch with Kalpana (School talks team) Tel: 07875 413427 to discuss how we can support your school now, or in the future.

The school outreach team is part of Harrow Samaritans, who have been working in the borough for over 50 years. We visit both primary and secondary schools regularly to deliver talks and workshops.

PRIMARY SCHOOLS

For primary schools we offer a short 30-minute emotional health assembly, tailored for a young audience, with emojis and stories. We talk about it is fine not to be happy all the time, how everyone has different feelings, suggestions of activities that may make you feel better, how important it is to talk to someone when you are sad and how to be a good friend to someone in need. This assembly takes place usually in a hall with a large group of students and their teachers. We then go into individual classes and we will conduct interactive workshops geared to the particular age group.

SECONDARY SCHOOLS

At secondary schools we offer a 30-minute more serious emotional health assembly, dealing again with the nature of emotional health, the stresses faced by that particular age group, coping strategies, why talking to someone is incredibly powerful as a means often to finding your own solution and how to be an active and attentive listener. In addition, upon request we will conduct longer interactive emotional health, self-harm and suicidal thoughts workshops in individual classes. We also have presentations for parents - not to teach them parenting skills but to give them an idea of what their children may be looking for, if they are going through a rough time. In this case, we give them the benefit of our experience, as we talk regularly to children. We can also conduct a presentation on emotional health for teachers.
