City Bridge Trust - Small Grants

Objectives of Fund

This fund aims to support projects that focus on greening and growing, working with older people, working with Deaf and Disabled people, working with the LGBTQIA+ community, and working with migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers. Grants of up to £20,000 per year for up to five years are available. A grant cannot amount to more than 50% of an organisation’s turnover/income in any one year.

Who Can Apply

The following organisations that work for the benefit of people who live in Greater London can apply:

  • Registered charities.
  • Registered community interest companies (CIC) limited by guarantee.
  • Registered charitable incorporated organisations.
  • Charitable companies.
  • Exempt or excepted charities.
  • Registered charitable industrial and provident societies or charitable community benefit societies (BenCom).
  • Constituted voluntary organisations.

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Have an income of less than £200,000.
  • Have clearly defined charitable aims in their constitution.
  • Be not-for-profit.
  • Work for the benefit of Londoners.
  • Include a dissolution clause/asset lock in their constitution.
  • Have a governing body of at least three unrelated members.
  • Have the appropriate insurance and qualifications in place to deliver work.
  • Provide a copy of their most recent official accounts or financial records which show that the organisation is solvent.
  • Have a clear and robust safeguarding policy.
  • Be registered with the Charity Commission or appropriate regulatory body (if any grants awarded take the organisation's income above £5,000).

Organisations and voluntary constituted organisations that are led by and for LGBTQIA+ people are particularly welcome.

Eligible Expenditure

The funding is for the following areas of work:

  • Environmental, greening and growing.
  • Working with older people.
  • Working with Deaf and Disabled people.
  • Working with the LGBTQIA+ community.
  • Working with migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers.

Funding is for projects that actively involve the communities they serve when designing their services, as well as projects where the majority of staff and/​or leaders have direct, lived experience of the organisation’s area of work.

Examples of eligible projects include:

  • A youth organisation developing an advisory board to support young LGBTQIA+ people of colour to develop social and leadership skills.
  • An older people’s lunch club targeting trans people over 60 to combat isolation.
  • A peer support group for LGBTQIA+ people experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity in London.

Applicants can seek core funding providing all the organisation’s work is eligible for the funding criteria they have applied for.
