What

Step into the rhythm of Peru with the Peruvian Little Dance Show project, a dynamic endeavour set to bring the essence of Peruvian culture into the heart of the Harrow community. Delve into a world of lively dance workshops designed to ignite the imaginations of children and young people alike. Participants will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in Peruvian folklore and Latin dance styles, culminating in a spectacular dance performance showcase.

The project will focus on Peruvian folklore and Latin dance styles, encompassing various traditional and diverse dance styles such as Marinera, Festejo, and more, infused with elements of salsa, merengue, and other Latin dance forms. Each dance style will be taught in-depth, allowing participants to develop a strong understanding and appreciation for Peruvian dance heritage.

Overview of activities:

  • Weekly Dance Workshops: Children aged 2-5 will discover the magic of Peruvian dance offering them a blend of fundamental techniques, choreography, and cultural storytelling
  • Cultural Storytelling Activities: Through captivating narratives, participants will gain a deeper understanding of this ancient tradition, forging a connection with the dance techniques
  • Exercise and Relaxation Activities: Tailored exercises and relaxation techniques will promote physical and mental well-being. From invigorating warm-ups to soothing stretches, each session is designed to cultivate strength, flexibility, and resilience while fostering a sense of calm amidst the excitement
  • Dance Performance Showcase: Participants will wear traditional costumes to celebrate Peru's culture in a final performance

Supporting the Arts Funding Programme

The vision of this programme is to involve all communities in arts and culture and to give those children and young people who are not engaging in performing arts the voice and power to help shape local arts provision. This programme is possible with the funding support of John Lyon's charity, Harrow School, the Voluntary Action Harrow (VAH) networks and the Harrow Culture Forum.
