Crime Prevention Presentation – Josh’s Story

Violent crime shows no signs of slowing down and continues to be a huge issue among young people. We continue to see press coverage on many knife attacks on people year on year, particularly in London with a constant rise since 2015 the year Josh lost his life. This PowerPoint presentation delivered by Josh’s mum, Tracey, shares Josh’s story, his life, and his untimely death because of a knife crime.

While sharing Josh’s story, we encourage individuals to resolve conflict without using violence and what happens when they choose not to. The outputs from our presentation improve the safety of all Londoners while having a positive intervention and prevention impact on certain groups in society who are disproportionately vulnerable to and affected by knife crime. We also address trauma recovery and resilience as we recognise that victims of violent crime can often become the offender where trauma has not been addressed.

Our training sessions offer insights into the many challenges parents face with children who are Neurodiverse. Anxiety, anger, and frustration are some of the challenges for children who have Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Attention-Deficit Disorder (ADD). ADHD is one of the most prevalent mental conditions in school-age children and can have long-term effects of childhood mental illness on criminal activities. Research shows a substantially increased likelihood of children with ADHD and ADD engaging in many types of criminal activities and how behaviours can be misunderstood. The training session addresses contextual safeguarding awareness, time management and coping strategies. Addressing trauma and how to process it allows individuals to work through challenges in a space which they have control over. In turn, this can steer young people away from deviant behaviours and criminal activities.
