Harrow’s Children & Young People Support Conference Brings Schools and Charities Together

Harrow’s first Children & Young People Support Conference brought together over 150 professionals in the borough, from schools, charities and local authorities, to benefit young people.

A video of the conference, organised by Young Harrow Foundation, and Harrow Council, can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zKjRQ6795Ig

The aim of the event was to work on improving connections and partnership working between schools and charities – so that more young people in the borough have access to free support in and out of school.

The event also saw the launch of a website that school staff can use to search and browse local youth support services in one place: youngharrowfoundation.org/school

Last year, over 6,000 young people aged 9-18 answered the HAY Harrow Survey through 26 schools in the borough. The results highlighted that Poverty, Safety, Emotional Health and Careers were the biggest worries for young people in Harrow and so the Conference focused on those topics and invited in organisations specialising in that support.

Dan Burke CEO of Young Harrow Foundation said:

“Young people in our borough deserve access to the opportunities and support they need to thrive, and we’ve already seen the CYP Support Conference help to build bridges between schools and charities, to better support young people.”

Peter Tolley, Director of Children’s services at Harrow Council, said:

“The needs of young people are complex and we need to support them the best way that we can to help them thrive and reach their full potential. This event was really productive and just shows that partnership working works better than working in single agencies.

“Everyone who attended had different pieces of the jigsaw - when they are put together in this way you get the bigger picture. In doing so, we have more joined up services and better outcomes for children and young people in our borough.”
